Andrew's Favorite Soups Cookbook by Muriel Angot with Andrew Lessman When it comes to our health, even the best vitamins must take a backseat to the food we eat, but how does a guy who can’t cook very well qualify to have his name on a cookbook? Well, I suppose that loving to eat is a good start and the fact that I know what constitutes a healthy diet is important as well, but my limited skills in the kitchen would prevent me from creating recipes you would enjoy. As a result, I have never felt qualified to write a cookbook; however, this is not really a cookbook, but my "Eating Book," since I was able to rely on a professional chef to turn my favorite foods into great recipes. In short, the only reason this book exists is because my best friend, with whom I live, happens to be a trained professional chef. Her name is Muriel Angot and she was born and raised in Paris - the world’s capital of fine cuisine and the same city where she attended the world-renowned Le Cordon Bleu cooking school made famous by Julia Child. Muriel has improved on all my favorite soups that I have enjoyed for many years and in some cases, for my entire life. It is only Muriel’s exceptional talent in the kitchen that has brought all my favorite soup recipes to life and now, to you. But why soups? Well, ever since childhood, soups have been my favorite food. They are delicious, low in calories, easy to prepare, simple to eat, easy to control portions and they enable me to enjoy many healthy foods I do not normally eat throughout the day. Soups have made it easy for me to maintain a healthy weight throughout my life, since weight control is all about portion control and since soups are liquid, there is no fooling oneself or weighing or guessing about portion size. In fact, whenever we make soups at home, we only use an 8-ounce portion and store them in the refrigerator in 8-ounce glass storage bowls. We can then simply eat them cold or reheat them in the microwave. In this way, we ensure that we never consume more than an 8-ounce cup of soup. Sadly, typical soup bowls are enormous and caloric levels skyrocket, but with an 8-ounce cup of soup your portions are always low calorie. Andrew & Muriel's Healthy Veggies Made Delicious Cookbook When you look at the recipes, you will notice that many of these soups contain beans and legumes, since they are so remarkably rich in protein and fiber, which also makes these soups healthy, hearty and filling. You will also find soups containing a wide range of healthy fruits and vegetables including of course cruciferous vegetables, along with a myriad of herbs and spices that are so rich in healthy phytonutrients. I have always included these healthy ingredients in my soups, since I have found that I often do not eat them sufficiently and soups make it so much easier for me to eat better. As a child I simply enjoyed soup, but as a busy adult, I have found that as far back as college, soups have been an easy, affordable and delicious way to eat better. I hope you feel the same way after reading our book. As a result of a multitude of requests, and following the exceptionally positive response to our first cookbook (Andrew’s Favorite Soups for Wellness and Weight-loss), Andrew and I have collaborated on a new cookbook designed to make it even easier for all of us to eat well. We answer the most common question we both receive: How can eating healthy be more enjoyable? This book responds by focusing on the foods that all of us know we should eat, but all of us consistently avoid eating because we never learned how to enjoy eating them. Today, I eat a diet rich in vegetables, but it was not always that way. Being raised in Paris, France came with its own set of traditional dietary challenges. Every meal seemed to come with abundance of bread, butter, potatoes and cream-based sauces. Clearly, I would have been better served by being raised in the South of France where the healthy Mediterranean diet has its roots, but we all inherit the diet of our upbringing. And in order to achieve my best health, I would need to overcome the traditional eating habits of a typically Parisian family. Ironically, I have now adopted a more Mediterranean (and Asian) style of eating where vegetables are prepared with healthy spices and herbs to replace the non-nutritious calories of a more Parisian (and American) traditional diet. It was not easy to leave behind those old Parisian ways, but once I learned how to prepare things differently, I not only enjoyed, but preferred the flavor and textures of the healthier foods I prepared. Plus I always would feel better after having eaten them. And once you try just a few of the recipes in this book, I am confident that you will feel the same way. Basically, my goal with this book is to help everyone discover what a pleasure it is both to prepare and eat extremely healthy vegetables like kale, collard greens, Swiss chard, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, asparagus and more. These are by far the healthiest of foods, but for most Americans (and even Parisians) only rarely consumed. As Andrew always reminds me, it is impossible to overstate the impact of what we eat (both good and bad) on the current and future state of our health. This easy-to-follow cookbook is intended to provide an opportunity to transform our lives by making foods that protect our health a delicious and normal part of our daily routine. Some good stuff!

While yes, some items in both cookbooks the average person would not have in their pantry, I would have to say overall, I have enjoyed the books. I use the "Healthy Veggie" more often than the other. The photography is very good, the directions are simple and overall preparation is equally simple. I recommend the books, the value is good & that is appreciated.
Not Just for Chef's These Cookbooks are GREAT for Everybody

Even for this not so great cook , these books are very easy to use. The recipes are easy and the ingredients are items most are familiar with. Also the nutritional information are listed for each recipe. Beautiful pictures , spiral bound . these are well made cookbooks. Thanks MURIEL

I purchased this set last month. I was a bit skeptical, thinking it may be complicated and unrealistic as far as ingredients go for the average person. But trusting Andrew for the last decade on his vitamins I figured why not take a look at these books, WOW! Awesome! I love how it is laid out with the photos of everything you need and how it is supposed to look as you combine everything, plus the photos of the end result. Healthy eating, great ideas, and beautiful, REALISTIC presentations, what more can I say. Thank you Andrew and Muriel :)

I just received this bundle. I love how each recipe is broken down in pictures and in words. I just tried the Incredible Kale, Red Cabbage and Pomegranate Salad. It was easy to prepare, and just outstanding. I was not sure of the dressing olive oil and lemon juice when I was making it and to my surprise it was also wonderful and very light, just right for the summer months ahead. I wanted just a little more sweetness so I added about 1/4 cup of dried berries that I had on hand and it did the trick. I also want to add that it was very pretty as well. All the different colors. My plan is to go through and try each recipe from the beginning of the book to the end and then work on the soups. Thank you Andrew and Muriel! I am trying as you said to make little changes in what I eat and I have begun to purchase some of your vitamins as well. I can't wait to get on to the next recipe.
