Product details

NAC 500 N-Acetyl Cysteine delivers 500 mg of N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC), an essential Glutathione precursor and detoxifying antioxidant that is a uniquely active form of the conditionally essential amino acid Cysteine.

It is the sulfur in Cysteine’s “thiol” (sulfhydryl) group that imparts NAC’s unique properties, including its critical role as a building block of Glutathione – our body’s most powerful, internally-produced protective compound.

NAC offers important protection to the brain, heart and lungs, but because of its unique detoxifying role, NAC provides targeted protection to the hardworking cells of the liver and kidneys making it a sensible part of any internal cleanse or detoxification program.

Unfortunately, NAC is not readily available from the diet and it cannot be readily produced by the body, so supplementation is a straightforward way of promoting its protective benefits.

These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

Key benefits

Supports Your Body’s Own Glutathione Production

Glutathione is one of the main antioxidants your cells make for themselves. It’s a small molecule built from three amino acids: Glutamate, Cysteine and Glycine. Cysteine is usually the one in shortest supply, so how much is available helps set how much Glutathione your cells can make. NAC, a stable form of Cysteine, supplies 500 mg per serving for that process.

Helps Protect Cells from Oxidative Stress

NAC gets its antioxidant power from the sulfur in Cysteine. That sulfur can neutralize free radicals, the unstable molecules that can damage cells. NAC does some of this work on its own, but its main contribution is helping your cells make Glutathione, one of the body’s most important natural antioxidants.

Helps Support Natural Detoxification Processes

NAC offers important protection to the brain, heart and lungs, but because of its unique detoxifying role, NAC provides targeted protection to the hardworking cells of the liver and kidneys making it a sensible part of any internal cleanse or detoxification program. Unfortunately, NAC is not readily available from the diet and can't be readily produced by the body, so supplementation is a straightforward way of promoting its protective benefits.

Frequently asked questions

What is NAC?

NAC (N-acetyl cysteine) is a form of Cysteine, an amino acid that contains sulfur. The “N-acetyl” part means an acetyl group is attached to the amino acid’s nitrogen, which makes it more stable than Cysteine alone. Your body removes the acetyl group to release Cysteine, which it can then use to make Glutathione and proteins.

What is Glutathione, and how does NAC relate to it?

Glutathione is a small antioxidant molecule that nearly every cell makes. It helps protect cells from oxidative stress, helps recycle other antioxidants such as Vitamin C, and plays a role in the liver's normal processing work. Cells build it from Glutamate, Cysteine and Glycine. Cysteine is usually the amino acid in shortest supply, so NAC supports Glutathione production by supplying Cysteine.

Can I get NAC from food?

NAC itself isn't found in food in significant amounts. Cysteine is found in protein foods such as poultry, eggs, dairy, legumes, sunflower seeds and whole grains. Your body can also make some from Methionine, another amino acid, though it's not readily available.
