What’s the difference between Gamma and Alpha Tocopherol?
Vitamin E is a family of eight compounds, including four tocopherols. Alpha tocopherol is the form the body preferentially maintains in the bloodstream, while gamma tocopherol is uniquely effective against certain reactive free radicals that alpha handles poorly. High doses of alpha tocopherol alone can also lower the body’s gamma tocopherol levels, which is why this formula provides both.
Why doesn’t the label show a high %DV for Vitamin E?
The Daily Value for vitamin E is based only on alpha tocopherol, so the %DV on the label reflects just the alpha tocopherol in this formula. The 500 mg of gamma tocopherol doesn’t count toward it, even though it’s the formula’s main ingredient.
Why is it called natural Vitamin E?
Our tocopherols come from plant sources rather than being made synthetically, so they’re the same forms found in foods.
